Caring Connections – Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Caring Connections home party?

A Caring Connections Home Party is an opportunity for you, your neighbors, friends, family or co-workers to take charge of your health as you engage in a personal and informative dialogue with a healthcare expert on life-changing topics that matter to you—all in a relaxed and fun home environment. With a philanthropic twist, parties also allow attendees to provide support that enhances the care and lives of those residing in the communities served by St. Francis and St. Gertrude’s.

What health topics can we choose from for our party?

In 2010, Caring Connections educators will be oncology-certified nurses and dietitians who will share great information in a personalized setting on any of the following topics:

  • Breast Health & Breast Cancer Prevention
  • Cancer Services Close to Home
  • Eating For Health & Family-Friendly Cooking
  • Eating for Longevity
  • Navigating the Healthcare System and Community Resources

Who organizes a Caring Connections home party?

Caring Connections are organized by you, community members, who share a passion for healthy living and community engagement, and want to bring people together for a great cause—like any other party! The party is held at the host’s home. Saints Healthcare Foundation works with the host to coordinate educational and philanthropic portions of the party.

How is philanthropy incorporated into a Caring Connections home party?

We believe that people today are focused on enhancing the meaning in their lives and the lives of those around them. We also believe people are looking to simplify! Rather than attending a party to buy something, a Caring Connections home party honors this awareness and enables attendees to gather with friends to both learn something meaningful and to give something to help those in needwhether it’s someone they know or another community member who is struggling with cancer.

How will my Caring Connections gift be put to use?

In 2010, all Caring Connections donations will be part of the Foundation’s Honoring Health campaign, which raises funds to enable St. Francis to launch a comprehensive program aimed at cancer prevention, early detection and patient support services for our community. It is also a campaign to add a new biopsy service to ensure that the one in eight women who experience breast cancer can receive their entire care close to home, where they know their doctors, know how to navigate their care, and are in arms reach of their support networks. Through these generous donations we look forward to bringing benefit to people in the communities we serve.

How are gifts solicited from party attendees?

Attendees receive a packet of educational materials, which includes the Foundation’s Circle of Saints giving brochure. While a donation is not required, participants have the opportunity to make a gift in honor of someone special, as a way to let them know how important their well being is to you—whether it’s someone who has been diagnosed with cancer; a supportive partner; or a child, sister, brother or friend.

Where does the money go?

Caring Connections is a program of the Saints Healthcare Foundation, a tax-exempt, charitable organization affiliated with the Benedictine Health System. Saints Healthcare Foundation works on behalf of St. Francis and St. Gertrude’s, while fulfilling its mission of ensuring resources exist to meet the healthcare needs of our community.

How will my gifts to Caring Connections be recognized?

The Foundation is thankful for your support and is honored to recognize your support in many different ways, including:

  • All donors will be recognized in the Foundation’s Annual Report.
  • All tribute gifts—made in honor or memory of someone special—will be acknowledged by a personalized card to the honoree or memorial family.
