St. Gertrude’s Health & Rehabilitation Center awarded prestigious national award for Continuous Quality Improvement in Long Term Care
St. Gertrude’s Health & Rehabilitation Center has been recognized as a 2009 recipient of the highest National Quality Award presented by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). This year, 19 nursing and assisted living facilities from across the nation applied for the quality award at the Step III level. St. Gertrude’s Health & Rehabilitation Center was one of only three to receive the award. They will be formally recognized during AHCA/NCAL’s 60th Annual Convention and Exposition, October 4-7, 2009 in Chicago, IL.
“The staff at St. Gertrude’s Health & Rehabilitation Center has set themselves apart by demonstrating that they can sustain a high level of performance across a broad spectrum of services. There are only nine long term care service providers who have achieved our highest level award,” stated Bruce Yarwood, President and CEO of AHCA/NCAL.
Applicants for the prestigious Step III level award demonstrate by approach, deployment and consistency of results that they are achieving high levels of performance in health care, customer satisfaction, market, workforce, process and leadership outcomes over time. At the Step III level, applicants must successfully address the Malcolm Baldrige Program’s Health Care Criteria for Performance Excellence. Step III applications are reviewed by teams of Master Examiners with extensive qualifications and special training to qualify as judges. A nine member Board of Overseers provides oversight of the award program.
“No one knows better than the staff at St. Gertrude’s Health & Rehabilitation Center that their quality journey never ends. But this award level is difficult to achieve,” stated Bernie Dana, Chair, AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Board of Overseers, “and they are now recognized as one of the very best providers in the long term care profession.”
AHCA/NCAL is a trade organization with nearly 11,000 members. AHCA/NCAL used the concepts of the Baldrige National Quality Award to create a 3-step national quality award program for the long term care profession in 1996. In addition to the 19 Step III applications, this year, there were 664 Step I and 215 Step II applications.
