Highlights from 2008

Before merging, St. Francis and St. Gertrude’s Foundations had a proven track record of bringing projects to fruition that make a difference for patients and their families. Here are some highlights of grants made from the foundations to St. Francis and St. Gertrude’s, respectively, in 2008.

Hospitalist program

Thanks in part to a $200,000 Foundation grant for program development, St. Francis now cares for hospital patients in a new way. Its new Hospitalist Program is part of a growing trend where specialized doctors, called hospitalists, have fewer in-clinic patient responsibilities so they have more time to provide immediate, well coordinated care to hospital patients around the clock.

Radiology enhancement

The Foundation provided $75,000 to remodel St. Francis’ Radiology environment to support service growth and provide a soothing environment for patients undergoing lengthy imaging procedures.

Atrium garden

The Foundation provided a $95,000 grant to complete this beautiful outdoor reception, meeting and waiting space for employees, patients, and families.

Pediatric rooms

The Foundation provided $50,000 to remodel four adult patient rooms located closest to the nurses’ station to accommodate our growing number of pediatric patients.

Circle of life suites

The St. Gertrude’s Foundation raised $300,000 to create two Circle of Life Suites, enabling patients and their families to stay together during a patient’s final stages of life. The suites provide a comforting and peaceful environment where 24-hour care is given by health professionals, volunteers and spiritual leaders.

St. Gertrude’s chapel

St. Gertrude’s raised $250,000 to create a beautiful 1,500 square foot chapel for patients and resident, which offers Sunday morning mass, as well as other denominational worship and rosary services.
